Presenters are invited to facilitate equity-minded activities they use in the classroom or in their programs in an active learning workshop format. Suggested examples include but are not limited to the following:
Equity-Minded Classrooms
Using Data to Promote Equity in the Classroom or Program Practice
DEI and Assessment - e.g. UNgrading, Specs grading, project based
Equity Scenarios
Facilitators will be asked to submit a 150 -200 word abstract.
Student presenters should submit an abstract explaining how their work relates to or promotes equity initiatives. This could include a project that illustrates community service learning, using OER materials, using the scientific method to investigate DEI issues, etc.
Abstracts should be between 100-150 words.
Vignettes of memorable personal experiences regarding such themes as course planning & assessment, student buy-in, faculty buy-in, productive discourse, changes in departments or program.
The presenters will be able to share their stories during lunch.
The focus of these sessions will be on sharing equity-centered research or practices. Each presenter will have 40 minutes to do their presentation, answer questions, etc.
Abstracts should be around 150-200 words in length.
Presenters should submit a brief abstract of their poster. The abstract should include the title of the poster, a description of the activity or work and its relevance to issues of equity and inclusion in STEM, results or findings, and a discussion. If the work is funded by a specific grant, this information should be included.
